Sport

The flexibility of the education system in the USA, means that talented athletes can continue to practice their sport at a high level and represent the university in competition with other universities throughout the country, without compromising their education.

Although it may not be uncommon for athletes to represent their University in their sport here in Europe, the level of competition, coaching and facilities in the USA are far superior.

The governing body of all intercollegiate competition, the NCAA, is the most competitive sporting environment in the world for 17-23 year olds and has produced many of the worlds top sports men and women.

University System

To understand better the concept, it is important to realize that the majority of universities in the USA are private institutions. This means that under normal circumstances, students would be require to pay large university fees ranging from $15,000 - $50,000, depending on the university.

However, talented athletes can benefit from a “sports scholarship” which would cover up to 100% of these costs.

“Sports Scholarships” are financial awards given to athletes by the University  to help alleviate the financial burden of a private education. The amount of scholarship awarded would directly correspond with the level of each athlete - meaning the most talented the athlete, the higher the scholarship award.

In some cases, Universities can offer 100% scholarships, which would include university fees, accommodation, food and books, therefore leaving nothing to pay.
